Moving!

I have been working on a few things lately, one of which is moving to a new website for my photos! I started this current site when the craze for daily photography was going nuts. Obviously I have not been succeeding at the daily photography idea.. and the name never truly fit my site. Please swing by at my new home: http://www.heathercarrollphotos.com/

Tiny Purple Wildflower

These little purple wildflowers were all over the Payson area. They are so tiny, smaller than a dime. This was taken while playing with a macro camera lens I am thinking about purchasing. What do you think? 

My first Iris!

This is the first bloom of my new iris bed out back. I was so happy when it bloomed! I hope the rest are going to start doing the same.. that would make it gorgeous!

Loki Time

More fun playing with the camera settings. This time it was my cat Loki who graciously allowed herself to be photographed. The first was taken in her favorite spot in the world, curled up in her basket that is perched on the shelf on my boyfriend's desk. 

The second one was her looking through her tunnel at me. That one was a little more difficult to get, the strings hanging down in her face don't help either, but I loved the way she just stared at me. I wish I could have shown how bright her eyes are, but the couch behind her washed her out a bit. 

Comet

Earlier this week I met up with a friend of mine and a photo group he has been hanging out with and we tried our hands at taking some photos of the comet gracing our skies just recently. The leader of this group was so helpful and I learned so much about taking pictures with my DSLR camera that it re-sparked my joy in photography. I had been struggling with the lack of desire just to go out and shoot, I really needed this kick in the butt. A big thank you to you guys. I had a great time.

These were taken out at Papago Park, Arizona. The first is more of a city-scape, but if you look closely you can see the comet to the left of the moon. The second is more of a close-up to make it easier to see the comet.

Lightning Shot

This was taken on a road trip we took a month ago. We drove into this awesome rain storm with a beautiful lightning show. By the time we were able to find a good place and stop it had calmed down a bit, but we still managed to get this great lightning shot! Next time hopefully I can get one with a better landscape, but still pretty happy with this one. This was taken in Northern Arizona between Kayenta and Tuba City.

Blue Moon

This was taken on a road trip last month in Northern Arizona. Somewhere between Greer and St. Johns to be as exact. We hadn't realized it was supposed to be not only a full moon, but a blue moon that evening. As we were driving we looked at this odd floating white thing in the sky and it took us a second to realize it was the moon. It was absolutely huge!

Unfortunately the evening brought with it a swarm of mosquitoes that didn't allow me to stay and take as many shots as I wanted, but I did end up with this one that I was pretty happy with. I hope you enjoy.

Monsoon Storms

I went out last night to go out and try my hand at some lightning photography. This was a good chance to play with my new camera and I am pretty happy with the results! I can't wait to get out there some more. This was taken in Queen Creek, Arizona.

in memory

I never had the opportunity to stop at the Chapel of the Cross in Sedona, Arizona but we made a point to stop on our last trip. It is a beautiful and peaceful place to visit, and it meant a great deal to a new friend of mine. She was unable to light candles in memory of 2 people she loved dearly, so this photo is for her. May these candles always be lit in their memory.

Camping by moonlight

The light of the campfire behind us and the moon peaking through the trees, it was an awesome night to go camping. This was taken just outside of Sedona, Arizona.

Relaxing at the creek

This was taken at Oak Creek just outside Sedona, Arizona. Very beautiful little spot just off the road that we stopped to put our feet into the water. It was so freezing!

Dandelions in the wind

I went up North this weekend with some good friends, and got a chance to take more photos! Should have a lot of post in the near future, so please come back soon! This is my best friend Lissa blowing on a dandelion to spread its seeds into the wind. This was taken at Oak Creek Canyon just outside Sedona, Arizona.

Disneyland Rose

This is one of the roses from my rose bush planted late last year. I took this after watering them this afternoon. I love the combination of colors!

Hibiscus

This was taken from my mom's front porch.. I am pretty sure its a hibiscus, but if I am wrong please let me know! :)

Loss of a King

I just found out from my Aunt that the Oklahoma Zoo lost their male lion today. This made me think back to the Phoenix Zoo (our local zoo) and the fact that we also lost our male lion just last year. I wanted to post a couple pictures of him cause he was absolutely gorgeous with a beautiful mane and if you were lucky enough to catch him at it, a tremendous roar. Here are a couple shots I took of him. I hope you enjoy.

Just a side note: I have not been to see him, but I did hear that we have a new younger male lion to keep our lioness company. His mane is still coming in and he is still developing his roar, so he is more of a teenager lion.

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

This was taken last month in Palm Springs, California. They are the home of a unique attraction, an aerial tramway that that takes you from elevation 2,643ft to 8,516ft in only 10 minutes. This was taken during the trip when we passed above the clouds of the nearby valley. We went from t-shirts and light pants to heavy jackets and scarves on that short trip. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend you check it out!
